The Wall
(Oil: 36x24)
The Wall

I started this painting the Summer of 2014 but left it undone when the inspiration evaporated. The painting remained unfinished until I heard the Pink Floyd tune, The Wall. It restarted my inspiration with the specific lyric, “all and all, all we are is just a brick in the wall”. The lyric line kept playing over and over in my mind and different interpretations of it came to mind. I finished the painting by hearing the lyric repeatedly in my mind.

The brightly lit entry way, the missing stairs, and the opening in the wall are from the original inspiration. It was the last scene from a troubling dream. In the dream, I was standing looking up at a massive wall and wondered why the entry way and gaping opening in the wall was so high from where I stood on the street. I found it odd that the door was missing, the stairs unfinished. I was also surprised that the enrry way was brightly lit while just a few feet away where apparently a window used to be it was pitch dark.
